Artist's Statement

I live in an 125 year old brick house. Renovations are not simple or easy. For example, the interior walls are solid brick. The path of least resistance includes learning to work within the confines of these existing spaces. Home life in the twenty first century includes spaces that were not even conceived of in 1885. My home is an example of my love for bringing together the past and the present – just as I do with my artwork

I love lighting. My friends and family are constantly laughing at me when I adjust the amount of light in a room. To my senses, the lighting finalizes the cozy feel and quality of tone a room can exude. By using found, old, decrepitated, and funky parts I combine the past with the present. I make my own shades for each lamp by painting paper, using fabric, or binding hand made papers. It is my hope that these shades entice the luminary to truly radiate

When looking at my lighting I invite you to regard the work as a whole or as a whole which is a sum of its parts. Whichever you see most fit

I hope you enjoy the work
